Launch of a new European project coordinated by ABD: EU Food Security Hub

The project aims at scalate and replicate across Europe the best practices and innovative methodologies displayed by the Consortium organisations tackling food insecurity, while promoting sustainable and socially inclusive food and agriculture ecosystems

On January 20, 2023, the kick-off meeting of the EU Food Security HUB project, coordinated by ABD, took place online. The project aims at scalate and replicate across Europe the best practices and innovative methodologies displayed by the Consortium organisations tackling food insecurity, while promoting sustainable and socially inclusive food and agriculture ecosystems.

The main motivation of the EU Food Security Hub project is to generate a common framework at European level encouraging VET organisations, CSOs, institutions and public authorities to address the challenge of food insecurity from a sustainable and socially inclusive approach.

In this sense, the added value of this proposal is related to its potential to support the transformation of regional, national, European and global food systems, making them secure, sustainable, healthy, resilient and trusted, while increasing social opportunities for vulnerable groups through training.

At the kick-off meeting, the first project activities and guidelines for successful implementation have been presented. The good practices of each partner organization that support the project have also been presented: Land, a  social enterprise promotion innovative and sustainable agricultural system born from CESIE; Cascina Sant’Alberto by ACRA, project supporting production and commercialization of agricultural products, trainging and employment for young vulnerable people; La Botiga d’El Prat de Llobregat, an alternative to charity food distribution that guarantee healthy and sustainable food in vulnerable households; The Social Kitchen by Iasis, aimed to people in poverty or homeless situation; Local Solidarity-based Partnerships for Agroecology (LSPA) initiatives by Urgency, promoting research and personal and digital training; and the expertise and innovations skills in managing networks for social change by EQU.

The EU Food Security Hub project, funded by the Erasmus+ program, will be implemented from January 2023 and June 2025, in collaboration with: IASIS (Greece) www.iasismed.eu; Land Impresa sociale (Italy) https://impresasocialeland.org; Estrategies de Qualitat Urbana (Spain) www.equ.es;  ACRA (Italy) www.acra.it; Reseau International Urgenci (France)  www.urgenci.net.
